Baddley Chemicals, Inc developed a proprietary, lead-free, biodegradable non-toxic product named OCTAPOL after learning of the serious environmental and health problems related to the use of toxic Lead Subacetate in the Sugar Industry for clarification of sugar-bearing juices. 

Octapol® is based on the proprietary formulation consisting of a mixture of eight chemicals (OCTA-) and also for its use in clarification prior to pol (-POL) measurement of sugar-bearing juices. It was introduced into commerce in 1998. For the past 20 years, Baddley Chemicals Inc. has manufactured and supplied this effective and environmentally-friendly reagent to both Sugarcane and Sugarbeet factories in many countries, spanning six continents. It has proven over these many years to be an excellent substitute for Lead Subacetate, without the dangerous and unacceptable properties of Lead chemicals.
